This article presents
an invention that is reported as a step towards allowing blind people to see.
The invention is compared to that of a fictional invention in the television
show Star Trek. In the
show the character, Geordi
La Forge wore a ‘visor’ that was much smaller and did not require any wires
or additional pieces. The claims of the report are that digital images received
by a set of lenses or a visor “would then be transmitted wirelessly from the
glasses to a small implant in the wearer’s brain, which would stimulate the
visual cortex to let the person “see” what the glasses are pointed at”.

The supporting evidence
that this invention is a legitimate breakthrough and not a hoax is presented in
a video. The video shows how the cameras
and technology works theoretically, and includes interviews with reputable
sources from the Monash Vision Group which is based out of Monash University in
Melbourne, Austrailia. The Monash Vision Group are the developers of the
project.
This technological feat is being made possible by the combined efforts of Monash University, Grey Innovations, The Alfred Health, and MiniFab. These groups are behind the design,
integration and manufacture of polymer micro and nano-engineered systems for
the Biotech and allows for the development of this groundbreaking technology.
I think it's amazing what technology can do. Always hearing of these medical advances, and they always seem to surprise me that such things are possible. Now I wonder how popular these glasses will be when and if they go into the market.
